Part 1
- 2 hour session.
- A personal history. This is not an "oh, pity me" type of presentation.
- Focus on past teachers, health professionals, peers and family member’s reactions and responses.
- Strategies that have and haven’t worked.
- A practical look at the ‘Theory’.
- A broad look at the autistic spectrum not just relating to me.
- Focusing on the triad and sensory issues.
- Practical exercises with group feedback.
- Plenty of time for questions. I openly encourage staff to ask questions, if not at the time then via email later.
- Staff say they feel more confident after the above session.
- This session is particularly good for those at the start of teacher training, those in service and those studying the PGCE Breaking barriers to learning unit.
Part 2
- 2 hour session.
- Recap discussion and questions.
- A practical exercise to help reinforce learning.
- Educational environment presentation - Specifically focuses on problems relating to school.
- Group discussion on key aspects such as communication established in the first hour.
- Identify possible problems and solutions.
- Reinforce everything learnt.
